There was once a farmer who had a big, handsome cat. Now that cat was so mischievous, he caused so much trouble, that his master was sick to death of him. The farmer sat down and thought arid thought until at last he made up his mind to set rid of the cat. He put him in a sack and took him to a big forest and there let him out of the sack. "He will lose himself among the trees," thought the farmer.
The cat walked and walked through the trees until he came to a little house. He climbed up under the roof and found himself a nice warm corner. Whenever he felt hungry he would go out into the forest and catch mice; there were lots of mice and he was never hungry. Back he would go to his warm corner with never a worry in all the world.
One day the cat was out looking for mice when he met a fox. The fox saw the cat and wondered who the stranger was. "I've lived in this forest all my life and I've never seen anyone like that before!"
"Who are you, my fine young man?" asked the fox, bowing to the cat. "Why have you come here arid what name are you known by?"
